About Aswan
It lies on a small peninsula to the east of the Nile River, south of Egypt. It is one of the ancient Egyptian cities. The first name in history is the Swenet, which is said to have come from the ancient Egyptian goddess Swenet. Aswan is also hosting the first waterfall on the Nile River. Aswan, which is considered to be the main land of 'Granite', is also known as 'the city where the obelisks spread over the world'. However, there is an obelisk that cannot be completed in the city.
The obelisk, which started to be built in the stone bed at the order of the female pharaoh Hatshepsus, was left half due to a crack in the stone. It is narrated the obelisk would be 42 meters high. This height exceeds the height of all obelisks in the world. Unfinished obelisk, as one of the many symbols of Ancient Egypt, is currently attracting many visitors. Boat tours on the Nile River introduce foreign visitors to the city's rich history. The most important stops on the route are the Temple of Philae, the sacred site of Isis, Botanical gardens that add greenery to the sand-colored city, the Aswan Dam, the largest dam on the Nile River which is also referred as a miracle of engineering and the ancient Cataract Hotel where Agatha Christie wrote the novel Death in the Nile. These are also the city's major attractions.
