Transportation to Airport from Bakü City Center

Heydar Aliyev Intl. Airport

Located along the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s capital Baku is a rising star in the East gaining notoriety for its oil, gas, and caviar. Baku is a city that attracts the attention people migrating from Asia and other countries in the region, and businessmen from all around the world. The city’s only airport is the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, named after the National Leader and third President of Azerbaijan. The airport serves 5 million passengers annually.

You can get to the airport, which is located 25 km away, from the city center by car or a combination of the metro and airport buses.

Airport Buses

The easiest and cheapest way to get to the airport from the city center is by airport bus. Bus line 116 departs from Vurgun Park, located in central Baku, and takes about 50 minutes to get to the airport.

Metro

The metro system in Baku provides transportation to many central locations in the city like the Old City, 28 May Street, and the Caspian Sea. However, to get to the airport from the city center you have to first take the metro and then get on a bus. From central locations in the city like the Old City, Cafer Cabbari, and Khatai you can take the metro to the 28 May and Koroglu stations. From here you can get on bus line 116, which runs to the airport or take a taxi to the airport.   

Personal Car

Since the city is rich in oil, fuel is cheap, making traveling by car a very attractive option. Getting to the city center from the airport is very easy. One of the city’s most important avenues, Heydar Aliyev Avenue will connect you to the Boyuk Shor Highway, which goes to the airport. From the highway take the Airport exit. The airport contains indoor and outdoor parking lots where you can park your personal car for a certain fee.

Although it is not very large Heydar Aliyev International Airport is an important junction, especially for passengers traveling between Europe and Asia. The airport offers passengers a variety of eating, drinking, and shopping venues.

The airport has 2 terminals, Terminal 1, which was completely renovated, and Terminal 2, which serves domestic flights. The airport contains world famous fast food chains like Burger King, McDonald’s, and KFC, as well as restaurants that offer delicious flavors unique to Azerbaijani cuisine.

The international terminal has a large Duty Free shop as well as souvenir shops where you can buy items unique to Russian and Azeri culture. The airport features free wireless internet connection. 

Transportation to Samarkand City Center from Airport

You can reach Samarkand International Airport, which is about 5 kilometers away from Samarkand city center, by taking a taxi or taking the advantage of the hotel shuttle service. If you prefer public transportation, it is possible to reach the city center by choosing from five different bus lines. In Samarkand, where transportation costs are quite low, you only need a small amount of money to reach the city from the airport. Since Samarkand International Airport is very close to the city center, you can reach wherever you want in Samarkand in a short time.

Taxi

There are the taxis waiting at the exit of the arriving passenger terminal of the airport. Transportation to the city center by taxi costs about 3.000 - 4.000 Uzbekistani Som.

Bus

You can easily see the bus stops at the exit of the arriving passenger terminal. As the airport is very close to the city center, many bus lines pass through the city center. You can reach Samarkand city center by choosing from the buses 31, 10, 60, 18 and 37. One-way ticket price per passenger costs 600 Uzbekistani Som.

Hotel Shuttle Service

Many hotels in Samarkand offer airport shuttle service to their guests. You need to make a reservation in advance if you want to take advantage of the shuttle service provided by your hotel. Hotel shuttle service is a little more costly compared to taxis; however, it doesn't affect your budget that much because transportation by taxi is also very cheap. The main advantage of preferring this service is that the service driver will be waiting for you at the luggage delivery area, the shuttle will be ready for you and you will not need any navigation assistance.

Rent a car

You can see the offices of car rental companies at Samarkand International Airport. By renting one of the affordable cars, which are offered in different segments with various specifications, you can make your journey comfortable. You can reach the city center after driving about 5 kilometers by the rental car.

Completing the car rental procedures online before your journey will save your time. Please keep in mind that you must have an international driver's license to rent a car. After taking the airport exit on the road, you just need to follow the city center signs.
