About Rwanda

Rwanda, a country that endured years of German and Belgian colonial rule, is now one of Africa's poorest nations due to its arid land and a history of internal conflicts. The country has been striving to rebuild itself following the devastating years of warfare, where multiple ethnic groups clashed, resulting in casualties.
With the intervention of the United Nations, conflicts have ceased in Rwanda. Today, the local population relies primarily on agriculture and livestock for their livelihood. Additionally, coltan and tin mines contribute significantly to the country's economy.
Rwanda shares borders with Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania. The country experiences a warm equatorial climate, with eastern regions having a mild and humid climate typical of Africa. Throughout the year, temperatures in Rwanda typically range from 15 to 26 degrees Celsius, with monsoon rains occurring between September and May. Apart from these rainy seasons, the country experiences hot and humid weather, with occasional droughts.
The capital city, Kigali, is notable for the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a testament to the extent of the atrocities during the civil war, which leaves visitors in shock. Tourists are drawn to day-long gorilla safaris in Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, which replicates the natural habitat of gorillas. The Rwanda Film Festival, the country's most prestigious event, takes place every July, attracting worldwide attention, and lasts for about a week. The Pan-African Dance Festival, held in February and featuring dancers from nearly forty countries, offers unforgettable performances to the audience.
While visiting Rwanda, "Melange," a dish made from a mixture of plantains, beans, and rice, and "brochettes," a type of goat kebab, are among the must-try. Don't miss out on "bralirwa," Rwanda's famous beverage. You can also indulge in fried bananas and authentically sourced Rwanda honey. For those not inclined towards Rwandan cuisine, you can find restaurants offering Italian and Chinese cuisine in the country.
