The city, which has a population of about 130.000 people, is located in the Fraser Valley where more than 250 thousand people live. The name of the city of Abbotsford, which was founded as a village in 1892, comes from Harry Abbott, the Western inspector of the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
After Toronto and Vancouver, Abbotsford is the third most ethnically diverse province in Canada, and hosts the most crowded South Asian population in Canada. Thirteen percent of the people living in the city belong to Sikh belief, and the first Sikh temple established in North America is in this city.
