About Altenrhein
Altenrhein, a small village in Thal in St. Gallen canton of Switzerland, is located on the shores of Lake Constance, the third largest lake in central Europe.
Located in the north-east of the country, Altenrhein forms Thal Municipality together with Buechen, Buriet and Staat. Altenrhein has the most important wagon factory in the country. All the vehicles, including subway, suburban, trolleybus, locomotive and high speed train, are manufactured in this factory. Another remarkable feature of the city is that it is home to the Aviation Museum, the only example of its kind in Europe. The history of Swiss aviation and the development of the airport in the region are being revealed in this museum. Altenrhein hosted an important sporting event in recent history. The annual World Road Championship organized by International Cycling Union was held in Altenrhein in 1983.
