Angers is located in the west of France, in the Pays de la Loire region. It is 90 km away from the region's capital of Nantes. The Maine River divides the town into two, and there are 6 beautiful bridges spanning the river and connecting the two sides. The ancient Romans gave this town the name "Juliamogus", and was site of the ancient Angevin Empire.

Today it is a beautiful and green city with a mixture of medieval and 19th-century architecture modeled after Paris. For example, the oldest building in the city, the Hospital Saint-Jean, was built in 1175 by the English king Henry II. Visitors can also see and enter the 13th-century Angers Chateau, the 12th-century Saint Maurice Cathedral, and the unique wall tapestries dating from the Middle Ages that are on display at the chateau and in various museums.

The city is also admired for its beautiful botanical gardens, as well as the Arboretum Gastan Allard where over 20 different species of trees can be found. The Angers-Loire airport is located 20 km northwest of the city center.
