The airport, which was started to be built in 1942 at one of the intersection points of Kentucky and Ohio states in the United States with the order of the United States of America’s President Roosevelt, was officially opened in 1944. In 1960, extensive renovation and expansion works were carried out at the terminal and airport facilities. A new runway was built in 1971 at the airport.
