Debrecen is Hungary’s second largest city after Budapest and it is located in the Northern Great Plain region. University of Debrecen, which is among Europe’s oldest universities, is located in the city center. The city is established on lush green forestland and the flowers that bloom in spring and summer are particularly breathtaking. The Reformed Great Church is the most important historic structure in the city. Other important areas to visit include the Botanical Garden, Zoo, City Park, and Deri Museum.

The city center is equipped with a modern swimming pool, football fields, tennis courts, and gyms for various events and activities. The most important festival in the city comes with the begging of spring, the Flower Carnival. The naturally beautiful city attracts many tourists. The city serves Hungary’s unique flavors as well as alternative dishes from Turkish, Serbian, and Albanian cuisines. Debrecen is a very safe city; even at midnight you can comfortably walk around. Debrecen has a convenient public transportation system, with a particularly advanced tram system. Bicycles are conveniently used in the majority of the city. Located in the city center, the Debrecen Airport is an important part of the transportation network.
