About Khmelnytskyi
Khmelnytskyi is the administrative center of Khmelnytskyi Oblast (province) and Khmelnytskyi Raion in western Ukraine. Located on the banks of the Hmelnitski Buh River, in the historical district of Podolya (Podillia), this city has a population of about 290 thousand people according to the 2009 data.
At the same time, the city of Khmelnytskyi, whose exact date of establishment is unknown, has been referred to as Proskurov since 1431. The city was renamed in 1954 by Bohdan Khmelnytsky as Khmelnytskyi as a result of a treaty.
Throughout the years, the city hosted many foreign communities including Turks, Germans, Hungarians, Poles, Lithuanians, Austrians, Swedes and Russians.
