About Kolkata

Kolkata is India’s second-largest city and one of the world’s most populated cities with a population of 5 million in the city center and total population of 12 million. It once served as the capital of India.

Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta, has an important role in the history of mankind. In the years that Westerners raced to colonize nations the city was one of the top targets and was known as a cultural capital.

In the summer season, from March to July, temperature ranges between 30 and 40 degrees; so the weather is quite hot and humid. In the winter the temperature ranges between 9 and 11 degrees. The city experiences the most rainfall from July to September.

Kolkata is one of the best cities to discover Bengali cuisine, famous for its spicy food. Among places to visit in Kolkata are the Akashvani Bhavan radio building, Fort William, a British-style structure, Chowringhee, an area where the city markets are, Nakhoda Masjd, Calcutta Jain Temple (also known as Parshwanath Temple), The Kalighat Kali Temple, and the famous Big Bazaar.
