Jizan or Jazan is the capital of the Jazan Region, which is one of the smallest regions of Saudi Arabia, it is located on the coast of the Red Sea. The city is quite famous for more than 100 islands and several diving spots. It is only 40 meters above sea level and the population is around 100,000. Jizan is an important trade center with its bustling port, several of the most valuable, billion-dollar worth projects in Saudi Arabia exist in the city. 

The national oil and gas company of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco, has built a refinery in the city with a capacity of 400,000 barrels of oil production. In addition, Jizan develops in the fields such as renewable energy and agriculture and has an aluminum smelting plant with a total value of 3 billion dollars. Jizan’s population is mostly Sunni and Shia Muslims, and until the early 20th-century city’s sources of income were fishing and pearl fishing. Nowadays, fishing is still widespread in Jizan and the city is one of the centers of the maritime industry.

Jizan has a hot desert climate with average annual temperatures of around 30 °C. The hot weather continues through the year, even in winters the temperature drops to 20 °C. Due to the climate, Jizan has high humidity levels, especially in summer and sandstorms can be seen in the inner parts of the city, farther from the coast. Jizan Port and Jizan Regional Airport are well-known to those who travel to the city and there are flights and bus rides from almost every city in Saudi Arabia.
