About Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a city and union territory in India, situated approximately 165 miles (265 km) north of New Delhi. The city's boundaries are defined by the state of Haryana to the east and the state of Punjab on all other sides. Situated on the Indo-Gangetic Plain, it is positioned close to the Siwalik Range and is situated between two seasonal hill torrents, namely the Sukhna and Patiali rivers. The region features flat and fertile alluvial soil, with rural farmland cultivating crops like wheat, corn, and rice. During the summer months (April to June), temperatures can soar above 120 50 °C, while in the winter months (November to February), they can drop into the mid-2s °C, often accompanied by rain showers. The monsoon season (July to September) is characterized by hot and humid weather.
Within the territory of Chandigarh, you can find the city of Chandigarh, several towns, and neighboring villages. The territory is governed by the governor of Punjab, appointed by the national government, with the assistance of a senior officer. Chandigarh city serves as the capital of the territory and the states of Haryana and Punjab. The name "Chandigarh" means "stronghold of the goddess Chandi" and is derived from the Chandi Mandir, a temple dedicated to the goddess located near the town of Mani Majra.
Chandigarh Airport operates scheduled commercial flights to major cities in India. An international terminal was completed in 2015, facilitating international flights to Dubai and Sharjah.
